I sat next to a millennial on a plane last month and as our small talk continued in the direction of religion and our shared Christian faith, the question of denomination came up: “I was raised Seventh-Day Adventist…” he answered sheepishly. “Have you heard of us?”
He was a young gentleman, well-educated, and clearly was aware that Seventh-Day Adventists haven’t always been considered “orthodox Christians…” I didn’t give him a lecture or shame him for his background (click here for tips on witnessing respectfully), but I wondered if he knew the differences between biblical Christianity and SDA doctrine.
There certainly are a lot of differences, but is Seventh-Day Adventism dangerous?

Do they share the same beliefs that the Bible teaches? The term “seventh-day” sounds biblical (referring to God’s sabbath, or seventh day of rest as described in Genesis), but the problem lies deeper…
Watch this fascinating all-encompassing Q&A from our expert authors Paul Carden and Colleen and Richard Tinker, and former SDA pastors. You’ll learn–
- the differences between biblical Christianity and Seventh-Day Adventism (including unpublished writings from Ellen G. White where she claims God “tricked” her and other shocking false SDA beliefs!)
- simple statements or questions you can share with your Seventh-day Adventist friends to open up the conversation
This “What is the Seventh-day Adventist book, The Clear Word?” eChart compares 6 Bible passages side by side with the same passages in The Clear Word. The Clear Word is produced and distributed by the Seventh-day Adventist church’s Review & Herald Publishing Association. Notice that The Clear Word consistently inserts material from the Adventist prophet Ellen G. White’s teachings and “visions” with no basis in the original Bible manuscripts. This chart compares these passages in the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and The Clear Word, so that you can see the difference. Download it Now!
