FREE Devotion: Loved by God (Fresh Hope for Today)

Loved

By Grace Fox

God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

ROMANS 5:8 NLT

Pause

Denyse had experienced a lot of pain in her life. Poor personal choices heaped heartache on her, and others’ choices added more. Her siblings labeled her a drama queen, and coworkers excluded her from lunchroom conversations. Hers was a lonely existence, and she felt she deserved it.

Denyse could scarcely believe it when a friend told her that Jesus loved her. She’d always assumed he wouldn’t want to associate with someone who didn’t have her act together, so she’d never explored teachings about him. Learning that he came to earth to bring hope and to help her flourish changed her mind (John 3:17).

Jesus loves us because of who he is—the sinless son of God who came to earth for sinners’ sake. He never rejects us because we carry hurts. In fact, he does the opposite: he invites us to bring him our doubts, failures, disappointments, and imperfections, so he can heal us. He doesn’t expect us to have our act together before he accepts us. He accepts us, and then he helps us get our act together.

Ponder

What hurts would you like to bring to Jesus?

Pray

God, I come to you just as I am. Thank you for loving me in this state.

Get Encouraged

“If we comprehend what Christ has done for us, then surely out of gratitude we will strive to live ‘worthy’ of such great love. We will strive for holiness not to make God love us but because God already does.”
