Pause

The coronavirus trapped people into panic buying. Like a plague of locusts descending and stripping vegetation bare, so the population flocked into grocery stores and stripped the shelves. I was in Alberta visiting my mother when the World Health Organization declared the virus a pandemic. By the time I returned home several days later, my favorite grocery store was nearly empty. Flour? None. Sugar? Nada. Fresh meat, butter, cheese, milk, peanut butter, beans, rice, pasta—vanished. The sight felt surreal.

As angst began rising in me, the Holy Spirit brought Lamentations 3:22–23 to mind. He reminded me that God’s supplies never run short. His storehouse of compassion is always full. His faithfulness is available in abundance. We never have to wonder whether we’ll exhaust his love. There’s enough to cover our needs and more. Day after day after day, he knows our needs and meets them because of who he is. He is God, we are his children, and we have no need to panic.
