5 Gift Ideas for Your Pastor During COVID

2020 has been a difficult year for us all, especially for our churches. Now with online meetings and video conferences becoming the new norm, church attendance numbers have reached an all-time low.

Though many churches have switched to online fellowship, still thousands have had to shut down and have endured significant loss. While this has been tough on all the members of our church communities, pastors often bear the brunt of this while they are busy ministering to and encouraging the rest of their flock. Since October is Pastor Appreciation Month, we thought now is the perfect time to show our thanks for the wonderful pastors in our lives! Here are five ways to show your pastor appreciation for all that they do:

  1. Care Package

Sure, it might be difficult to meet at church in person this year, but there is nothing wrong with sending a heart-warming care package! Simply ask your pastor their address and ship it to their door! (Or drop it off yourself if you are close enough!) You can include:

  • A handwritten card with words of appreciation
  • A gift card to his or her favorite store or coffee shop
  • Healthy snacks
  • A mask
  • Bottle of hand sanitizer
  • An encouraging Bible verse

2. Books and Resources to Help with Sermon Preparation

This might seem a little bit less intuitive for some people, but why not encourage your pastor with some Bible-based products that he/she is passionate about! (It can also help them with their sermon preparation!) Some examples include:

Rose Book of Bible Charts, Maps, and Timelines 10th Anniversary Edition

This incredibly handy resource offers 216 reproducible pages of illustrations, charts, and maps on a variety of Bible topics, with two fold-outs of the genealogy of Jesus, a cutaway Tabernacle illustration, and a Bible Time Line. Many pastors and preachers consider this to be a great sermon search tool, or even a Sunday school resource.

For the pastor who likes to do their research, this book offers wonderful geographical, archaeological, and cultural background insights on the Bible. It includes Bible maps with overlays, full-color accurate topographical maps, and fascinating insights that explain the geography and politics that affected key Biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses, David, Esther, and more. An excellent sermon prep tool!

3. Encouraging Bible Verses

Use your gift of creativity to send your pastor some encouraging verses from God’s Word. Ideas include:

  • Bible Verse Jar: Cut up tiny strips of paper and write an encouraging Bible verse for every strip of paper. Fill a little jar with these verses so your pastor can read a verse for every week for the rest of the year! (You can even use colored paper to make it vibrant!)
  • Calligraphy: If you have an hand for art, why not practice your penmanship with some beautiful hand-drawn Bible verses for your pastor to love!
  • Painting/Draw: You can also paint/draw a beautiful picture and write an Bible verse on the bottom, making a very thoughtful and encouraging gift.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever

4. Personalized Devotionals

You can never go wrong with devotionals as gifts! These thoughtful books offer pastors spiritual nourishment, and you can easily get their name imprinted on the cover for an extra special touch. Here are a couple of our favorite devotionals to give as gifts:

100 Days of Prayer Daily Devotional

5. Journal of Appreciation

Here’s a gift idea you can send a gift from the entire congregation! Simply gather encouraging notes from your church congregation expressing their thanks and appreciation for your pastor via email or any social media. If you congregation is too large, you can just ask your small group or study group. Then, compile all of the notes and print them out and paste it into a journal– or you can create a slideshow to show during virtual church service! (Don’t forget to add pictures too!)

We are so thankful to have so many amazing pastors in the world shepherding the flock. Just as it says in God’s Word: 1 Timothy 5:17, “The elders who are good leaders are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.”
