Martin Luther
b. Nov. 10 1483

Martin Luther, a German priest, friar, and theologian, was a pivotal figure in the Protestant Reformation. Known for his Ninety-Five Theses, he caused quite a bit of a stir when he publicly rejected certain teachings and practices of the Church at that time. Indulgences, or the practice of issuing money for freedom from God’s punishment of sin, was one of them. What’s more, he challenged the authority of the pope saying that the Bible is the only truly divinely inspired source of God’s Word. Quite the rabble-rouser, huh? Happy birthday Martin!
