How to Forgive and Move On in Life

It’s easy to hang onto a grudge for years, letting it chew away at us over and over. Just when we think it’s all in the past, a thought or an image triggers the pain, and we realize we have not forgiven at all.
The bitterness affects our attitude, and makes us unhappy.

Why is forgiveness such a hard thing to do?

  1. The hurt is real. The pain is real.
  2. Some people hurt us over and over, and probably will continue to.
  3. We don’t ever want to trust that person again (more on this later).
  4. The injury hit us where it hurts: how we feel about ourselves. Are we the kind of person who deserves hurt?
  5. We suspect that God won’t do anything to make things right.

Imagine being able to set aside the pain and feel strong. Imagine being able to remember that person or situation and feel peaceful. Yes, you still feel the injury, but the sharp ache is gone. You haven’t forgotten it happened, but it no longer gives you a pit in your stomach. You can think about the situation without getting a red face or clenched fists.
It’s time to let God help you forgive. Click here to get a sample page from our pamphlet on What the Bible Says about Forgiveness. It gives you some key facts you need to know to heal and become whole again.
Forgiveness vs. Trust
One of the major roadblocks to forgiveness is feeling you have to trust the offender again. It is common to believe that you have to go back to being good friends or being close. But this is not true. You need to see what the Bible says about this. People need to know what the Bible says about forgiveness and why it is different from trusting people.
