Bible History Birthday!: John Calvin

To celebrate our NEW How We Got the Bible Series, we’re also celebrating the birthdays of the folks that God has used to get the Bible to where it is today!

John Calvin

John Calvin, a French theologian and pastor, fled the University of Paris for Switzerland when his speech on Luther and Erasmus angered the French government. There, he wrote the first systematic summary of Protestant theology, titled Institutes of the Christian Religion. Though his name is inseparable from “Calvinist theology,” John Calvin believed that God, in His unending grace, chooses to be revealed to sinful humans–predestination was only part of his theology, and probably a smaller part than people seem to remember today. Happy birthday John Calvin!
