Week of Prayer: Praying for Loved Ones

loved
We did it! You prayed through the week and we turned the National Day of Prayer into a National Week of Prayer! To wrap it up let’s look at how we can pray for our loved ones. Here’s an example in the Old Testament in which Jacob prayed for and blessed his grandsons:

And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.–Gen. 48:15-16

814Praying for others is an important part of a Christian’s life. It’s easy to say to a friend, “I’ll pray for you.” But, sometimes we forget to consistently lift up their needs. Who are you praying for? Do you sometimes forget? How can intercession become an active part of your prayer life?

Application

“I keep a prayer board next to my bathroom mirror and pin prayer requests on it,” says Rose staffer Rachel. “When I’m brushing my teeth in the morning and evening, I never fail to see it, and I can spend at least a few moments praying for friends, family, and specific issues I’m led to pray for.”
Take a minute right now to pray for your family, close friends, and their needs. Consider creating a prayer list for the needs of others. If you know people who are suffering with health issues, unemployment, and other needs, write down their prayer request as you hear them. Keep a notebook in your purse or car to help you remember to continuously lift them up in prayer.
